Historically, New York was multiple cities. It wasn't until a little over a hundred years ago that that changed.

(Also, have you checked that Heidi doesn't mind her full name being in this post rather than just a first name?)

Crap. No I didn't. I will go change that. I specifically asked her for permission to quote her and didn't even think about the names issue. (Not like someone couldn't quickly figure it out anyway, but...)
