Ann Arbor: Arrival

sniffnoySo, here I am. Now of Truth House rather than Tufts House.
Funny, I remember when I was visiting here, and some students were showing us around, there was one area they pointed to and were like, "You don't want to live around there, that's where all the fraternities are, and they're really loud." Turns out, I'm right in the middle of there. I can't say I was paying too much attention to such things. :D Well, I'm used to loud. In fact it looks a lot like I'm doing the opposite of quite a few of the things they recommended in terms of where to live, but I bet all this is ultimately nowhere near as important as the fact that 50 sets of hands is way more effective than 6, or 3. Though having a roommate again - another grad student, Derek, studying biology - will be pretty weird. He's already arrived, though I have yet to actually see him at any point. This is still pretty early so I don't think I've seen more than like 10, 15 different people here. I have to be here for grad student orientation, but I imagine most of the undergrads won't be showing up for quite a while.
I still have yet to actually unpack. There's already a Wii with Brawl playing down in the lounge; Kyle plays a pretty mean Lucas. Sounds like the people here are pretty good at Brawl; Kyle's actually played in tournaments. The lounge is of course not as large as that of Tufts, and nowhere near as central, but it'll serve, I'm sure.
New term: "Guff". That is the word around here for food that's house property; acronym (backronym?) for "general unrestricted free food". We have guff fridges and non-guff fridges, and apparently the latter are actually respected, unlike in Tufts.
