1st week miscellenea
Jan. 10th, 2009 03:25 pmWhile lying in bed this morning I heard the firetruck go by, honking "Shave and a Haircut". (Just the rhythm, of course, it can't alter the pitch of its honks!) I realized then that often when I heard it I had heard it honking this rhythm, only somehow up till now I had failed to realize it was doing this. Huh.
Has anybody heard from Shuo recently?
I have to start remembering about mathclub social hour. I've put a big piece of paper on my bulletin board to remind me.
It seemed like half the house was playing D&D last night. (How different from 3 years ago! Then you couldn't find anyone around because they were all out drinking, now because they're in the study lounge playing D&D...) I get the idea I'm going to have to learn this eventually. But first, Paranoia! I've had no trouble finding players, and while I haven't yet sent out a general announcement, I'm almost worried we'll have too many, if that's possible. (From Mickey's email: "Also, Sonia will be participating in the game. Thus, the player count will be you + Sonia + 3-4 other people that you find." Oh, hm, I forgot to reply to Mickey's email. I guess this is your reply, then.)
I like my current Kongai deck - I mean of course I get the idea I should test others so I can improve it, problem is it seems like there's nobody good playing unranked to test against, and I of course don't want to test a deck in a ranked match - but if I'm not going to change it, I get the idea I should develop counterpick decks. It's not too uncommon to end up facing the same person twice in a row, and many people (e.g., me) don't change their decks when this happens; it would probably be good to have some counterpick decks ready for such a case.
There are apparently actually multiple people wanting to replace me as secretary (we're holding elections next meeting instead of this one - also meetings are going to be now on Tuesdays because apparently Brad can't be there on Thursdays). This should be interesting.
