Nothing to do with Kongai. Honestly.
Dec. 29th, 2008 09:18 pmSeveral days ago a bunch of my family was here, and I was saying about how the last few weeks of school last quarter, I was eating very little because of all the work I had. "Like one meal a day," I said. And my grandma hears this and she discusses this with my aunt Rochelle - "One meal a day? I couldn't live like that!" she says. You were in Auschwitz, my aunt points out. You lived a lot worse than that. (To understate things...)
I'm sure this goes to something, but I don't really know what.
Speaking of school, I do need to figure out what classes I'm taking next quarter. Ideally, not very much. Obviously Algebra continues. But what else?
Hm... don't see anything in CS I'm interested in, and not much left in math, either... and obviously I can no longer start intro sequences in whole new subjects, like Physics or Linguistics. Actually I guess from physics I could take "Intermediate Mechanics", but... no. Oh, hey, what's this? Linguistics has a "nontechnical" "Languages of the World" course with no prereqs. Where I assume "nontechnical" means "not requiring any actual knowledge of linguistics" and hopefully "not very hard" (I mean, it's pretty hard to make a difficult class when you're avoiding doing things the right way). And while I do sort of in principle not like this sort of class (what's the point of learning something if you're not going to learn it in enough detail to actually be able to work with it? That's what "nontechnical" means, after all, no?) it does provide for me a nice out in trying to find a 3rd class.
But let's get back to math. Still need one more. Well, there's basic functional analysis, consisting largely of stuff I nominally learned first year but in fact probably largely didn't. Not too appealing, but there's not much else, and I probably should brush up on my analysis, especially since I do intend to take Manifolds in the spring. Problem: It's at 9 AM. Considering I had trouble waking up for Comp Ling at 10:30 this past quarter, that's not so great (or at least I'll have to get better at controlling my sleep schedule). Hm what else is left? ...basic ODEs. Oh, joy.
So... hm.
