So I just got an Andromeda, and I'm wondering if I should have her replace Rumiko. I'm thinking no. Of course, since not many people seem to play unranked anymore, this means it may not be so easy to test!

See, the theory I had when I started out was I had the Marquis, who can cast Teleport, and Rumiko, who can cast Ninja-port. They can use these to control the range without spending too much energy. And then I picked Onimaru as my third - I think probably because of his high physical resistance. Now he's been replaced with Higashi. So the theory was Marquis for close range, Rumiko for far range, Higashi can do either.

In practice, I now see Higashi is *much* better at close range than at far range, because of Open Palm. (Unless someone is dumb enough to put themselves in a position where they can't avoid a Chi Blast.) (I've also thought of replacing Higashi with the quarterback, but I feel like 30% chance to interrupt at 8 speed is better than 50% chance at 7 speed. But maybe I should actually test that.)

So really I spend most of the time at close range, with the Marquis and Higashi. Rumiko is certainly the least useful of the three. See, the thing about Ninja-port is, it's only speed 4. That won't interrupt very much. And the thing about Eviscerate is, while they're stunned, they're gaining energy. And there's quite a lot of characters that you don't want to be at far range against when they have a lot of energy! So I rarely end up using Rumiko anything like it seems like you're supposed to, because, well, despite being obvious, it doesn't seem to actually work. Sometimes I even have to - gasp - do an actual hard range change with her!

So in practice my deck works very differently than my original theory. And Rumiko doesn't seem to be doing enough, which is why I'm thinking of replacing her. But I don't know with what; I do want someone who can cover far range (and not just by teleporting in); and ideally someone that has something to help them get there. I don't much like the look of Amaya (and I don't have one, anyway), so, uh, Andromeda. But man, she seems a little risky. Maybe if I had a Stoneheel Totem to put on her? Or Phoebe has Hamstring, but from playing against her it seems like that's little use in practice - or, maybe everyone was just using it wrong, as it seems the point would be Hamstring, change range, and largely the people I've played against have done Hamstring, and then... not changed range, which makes it pretty pointless, it seems to me. I guess Ubuntu could sort of be considered to be in that category too, but, well, I don't think he's really a great far-range guy.

So I think I'll leave it alone for now, unless I pick up a Stoneheel Totem, as I don't really like the idea of substituting Phoebe for Rumiko...
