Orange juice and yellow juice
Oct. 6th, 2008 02:50 pmSo Hannah and Sasha were at lunch today, and somehow Hannah got to saying something about orange juice. (Recall, Hannah is 4 years old, and Sasha is about 2.) Now I decided I would try to perhaps confuse Hannah, by talking about juice that is orange, but not made from oranges - that is to say, orange juice that is not orange juice.
At first I tried to ask directly about juice that is orange but isn't orange juice, but of couse that just got Hannah going "No!" in her you're-being-silly voice.
So I asked, what color is tomato juice? Red. So if you made juice from a tomato, might you say it's red juice? Yup. So if you made juice from carrots, what color would it be? Yellow, she says. Really? Yellow? Yup. So carrots are orange, but carrot juice is yellow? At this point Sasha gives me a you're-being-silly "No!", so I ask /her/ would color carrot juice is, but she doesn't respond.
Maybe I can try with another fruit or vegetable that's orange, but I can't think of one - aside from tangerines and such, which Hannah presumably wouldn't know apart from an orange anyway. I ask Jack, and he suggests maybe sweet potatoes. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try asking about that, so I'll have to do that later.
