My mom said this. Quote not exact except for the part we care about. "Normally I don't drink much soda, but when Harry's here, I die for soda."

Now that's something I don't think I've heard before. I would expect "dying for" to become "start dying for" in this context, not "die for", which, well, stretches the idiom a bit far in my opinion.
