So, Kevin got me to switch from Mozilla to Firebird. A big yay to Kevin for pointing the existence of Firebird out to me! Firebird is so much faster than Mozilla; so far, I only have 3 complaints. Zerothly, strangely enough, that when I try to type in a new home page in the Options box, the OK button stops working. So for a while (ie one day) I was stuck with the Firebird home page as my own. Today I finally tried hitting "Use current site", and that worked. Still a strange bug, though. Firstly, middle-clicking activates a scrolly-thing instead of jumping to the page on the clipboard. And thirdly, I can't seem to get the Java plugin to work. Hm. I'm not sure whether I should blame that on Mozilla, Sun, or lump it with my other problems and blame it on Mandrake. (Since I haven't said this before, I'll say it now: I will eventually be getting a new computer - a laptop - with Windows XP, so I'll actually have a truly working copy of Windows again, and then I'll install some Linux distro *other than Mandrake* on it, so I'll actually have a truly working copy of Linux again.)

Mandelbrot today. Only got a 9 due to failing to realize the significance of the fact that... er, perhaps somebody hasn't taken Mandelbrot yet, probably shouldn't say. Of course it's ridiculously obvious, but it wasn't to me, so... as for the Team round, we completely beat that into the ground. It was ridiculously easy. Of course, I ended up in Regional for Team round, but even so, it was truly ridiculously easy. Very strange, how different the National was from the Regional this time...

Bwahahahaha... this turn I'm submitting 2 proposals and 3 referenda![0] BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
...OK, so that's no big deal. But still. I've never done it before.

Oh, and the player numbers Declaration failed, and Max still hasn't joined.

Meh, I had a great quote, but I can't remember it. Instead, I'll end this with a limerick by W.S. Gilbert, taken from Metamagical Themas:

There was an old man of St. Bees,
Who was stung in the arm by a wasp.
When asked, "Does it hurt?"
He replied, "No, it doesn't-
I'm so glad it wasn't a hornet."

Sun Systems?? I didn't think people actually liked using Sun Systems... Is there anything good about them??

Eh? Where did Sun come into this, outside of the fact that they made Java?

"I'm not sure whether I should blame that on Mozilla, Sun, or lump"
I'd thought that this meant Sun was the type of computer you were using...

LOL, I think I'll blame it on lump.

Yes, that's a good idea.

"Working copy of Windows" is an oxymoron.

I mean relative to my current copy.

About that laptop...

For one thing, "working copy of Windows" isn't exactly an oxymoron. I actually do believe WinXP is a decent OS. Not an excellent one (the annoying RAM problems are annoying, but then, I've got 512 MB), but definitely good. (To hell with any other version of Windows (from whence it came).)

Also, please make sure this laptop has a decent 3-D card. What's the point in having a decent copy of Windows if no games run on it? :-P

Now, "decent copy of Windows" is an oxymoron. *g* But I'll echo your last point.

Ram problems? There are no ram problems.

Don't taint the laptop!

Uhm, isn't middle-clicking supposed to scroll by the way? That is what it does in Windows...

Yes, but in KDE, it generally pastes. And in Mozilla, if you middle click (assuming you don't do so in a text box, of course), it jumps directly to the URL on the clipboard.

Hehe, I wonder if the entire thing is a windows-based source... That would be really weird if Windows was the main development system.

Either way, Moz and Firebird are owned by AOL... yelchhh.

Eh?! What?! Surely not!

*phew* They're not. They're just supported by it.

...at least, that's what it says...
