So, left out of last entry was my actual pursuit and elimination of Mike.

From last entry, a recap:

"On Wednesday he had a chem midterm - but Jo was in the class. I would have done it but I decided not to risk it (despite Winston's assurances that Jo would probably be unarmed - ha) when I found out about his later bio class. It ended at 4:30, but I was told he often left early, at 3:30, meaning I would have to rush there from number theory in order to catch him. In case that didn't happen, though, I went to the BSLC the day before to take a look around and find a good position to lurk. Apparently the class was in the basement, so I figured I'd get him from the stairway, where he's have a hard time returning fire."

So, Wednesday. When Mike encounters me in Tufts before combinatorics, he says to me, "You didn't kill me today, Harry." I say nothing. "I'm not going to bio today, by the way." I say nothing. As soon as number theory ended I rushed to the BSLC, though I couldn't go very fast with my backpack on (and carrying my coat). Now, seeing as I was coming from Eckhart, I approached from the south. There, already outside, I see Mike, along with Kurt (crap! A witness! It didn't occur to me at the time that Kurt had long since been eliminated). "Not going to bio today, you liar!" But how to get him? Coming from the south means I'm too visible. I rush around to the north, then carefully approach. Steve passes me by - wait, Steve?! Did he see me?! Might he warn Mike?! (It didn't occur to me at the time that no, he wouldn't, as Mike was hunting Steve!) Well, there's someone there who looks like Mike, so it takes me a while to realize Mike is gone. Crap - well, he'll have to go the long way around; I have the advantage. I get to the corner of 56th and Ellis and hide behind a low stone wall. I don't see him anywhere, though, after a while. I know he's faster than me, but... well, I'll get back to pierce, get him at the stairway choke point (didn't occur to me at the time that he could take the elevator), he must have gone a *really* long way around, there's no way he can get there before me. But as I pass through the second key door, there he is, right at the top of the stairs by the vending machine. (I realize now he probably left the BSLC while I was still getting into position in the north, which would easily have given him the necessary time advantage.) I pull out my squirtgun. He pulls out a sock, his only one, and throws - he hits the gun right out of my hand! He runs, and I, wearing my backpack, can't give chase.

Back in Tufts, I ask him - "How'd you do it, Mike? How'd you get here before me?" Thing is, he wasn't avoiding me at all - he was trying to get here before Steve! "Wait, Steve was coming from the BSLC? I saw him going towards the BSLC!" Which is it? It's hard to tell. Well, Mike says he's going back to hunt Steve. "No following me." I tell him I won't - and I don't intend to. Rather, I intend to put down my backpack, change into lighter clothes, then head to the BSLC myself, without following Mike at any point.

I figure time is prety important, so I don't bother going through the basement. But there, waiting by the vending machines, is Mike. He gives me an "I told you not to follow me" look. But I think, once again, time must be important; now that he's warned me off, he's going to go straight for Steve, right? So I turn back and go through the basement, and as soon as I open the door out of the basement, there's Mike. I immediately shoot before Mike can respond - with socks as his only weapon, he can't effectively attack through the door as it's opening. And so was Mike killed.

Of course, this meant now Steve was my target, so I headed to the BSLC in an attempt to wait him out. I didn't know precisely where in the building he was, if he even was, so I simply waited outside the building. Then I realized the little anteroom made a perfect hiding spot - in front of the police box and elevator displays, I had perfect visibility on anyone coming out of the building, but they had no visibility on me. There I waited, watergun and sock at the ready.

Several people asked me what I was doing, one of whom seemed visibly worried, and one person wished me good luck. Colin and Aviva passed by, coming out of the building. "You're giving away my position!" So he talked to me while standing at the door and facing Aviva instead. Eve also came out of the building but didn't notice me.

Finally a policeman stopped me and asked me what I was doing lurking there with the squirtgun. I told her I was playing assassins. She insisted I come inside the building, where she took down my name and ID number, and spoke various nonsense about "what with all the things happening on campuses these days" (I was carrying a squirtgun! And I should note, my position was perfectly visible to anyone entering the building, making it useless for actually committing any sort of crime), but simply told me to play around the building rather than inside it. So I took up position outside the building instead, but eventually decided he simply wasn't in there, and left.

Getting stopped by the cop, though, got me nominated for hero of the week.
