Here's something from a while ago...
Feb. 23rd, 2008 02:52 pmAnyone remember this? Those names were removed not too long afterward, but now, after a huge reorganization of the article (and presumably all the articles on those elements), there is once again a list of speculated and rumored names (no formal suggestions have yet been made).
Listed are:
"Wixhausium", symbol Wi
"Helmholtzium", symbol Hh (yay, diagonal!)
"Venusium", symbol Vs (because it's directly below mercury; but do we really need the "-ium"?)
"Frischium", symbol Fs
"Strassmannium", symbol St
"Heisenbergium", symbol Hb
-Harry

Date: 2008-02-25 01:20 am (UTC)I also really would like to see just plain "venus", but I wouldn't be surprised to find that there's actually a rule requiring the "-ium".
Also "helmholtzium" I think is nice and compact, whereas "heisenbergium" is kind of messy.
There's also the question of how it would affect the possibilities for spelling words with elements. Although, of those listed, only St would add any new possibilities. But St to me suggests stannum; after seeing that I had to think for a moment to remember what the symbol for tin actually was.
