So yesterday Grant returned from his brief stay at home, and told me he had brought something back with him... something he thought he was not in possession of, but found that he was. It can't be good Smash, I thought. I followed him to his room where he pulled out an N64 cartridge and held it up, its back to me - guess what it is, he said. Well, it's not good Smash, which means... there's only one possibility - F-Zero X. And indeed it was. As the title of the entry kind of gave away. Now we need to get Lucas over to play it. Although, this means that until Grant's friend does send us good Smash, we're basically going to be playing with only 8 characters and no item switch.

Meanwhile, Nadja is leaving as soon as she got back! :-/ She's taking a leave of absence for the rest of the year... man... well, she's staying in Chicago though, so she'll probably be around a lot. Of course, this also means that we have a vacancy, and someone is going to get to get rid of their roommate. AIUI Summer and Marissa get first crack at it, but I don't think Summer is going to take it, meaning Marissa should get it. However, Ian was saying about how some "lucky first-year" was going to get it... either he's not accounting for Laura and Marissa, or he knows something I don't. (This is assuming, of course, that the system works how I think it does, and that Laura ranks below second-years but above first-years.)

The reason that Marissa and Laura live together is because they both needed roommates to avoid paying for singles. So I'm pretty sure there is going to be some sort of lottery for the room among other Tuftians.

...wait, does moving into a single mean you have to pay for it? I thought the amount you paid didn't change if you moved within the house... but then I don't really know these things. I just assumed they didn't really bother with such things unless there was an inter-house move. Especially since intra-house moves can be done unofficially...

I think you do have to pay the single rate, although I'm honestly not sure. Anyway, inertia is against me, so I'm probably just gonna stay put (also, as moving requires spare time). Likewise for Marissa.

This is true. And I'm pretty sure I'm ranked as a first-year, regardless.

Well, the way they do it for the end-of-year lottery is quarters in the house, tiebroken by quarters in the college... so assuming they do it the same way for ordinary room reassignments, that would put you below the second-years but above the first-years.

OK, and the email confirms I have this right. So you are inbetween us and the first-years.
