So apparently, if you get Mission Accomplished in Sector X but then change course for Titania, Slippy somehow spontaneously disappears and ends up stranded on Titania on the way there. Because apparently they figured nobody would go to Titania rather than Macbeth or Sector Z. :P

I have to wonder if beating Sector Z but then changing course for Bolse would cause one wing of the Great Fox to spontaneously disappear... probably not. Since, after all, there's only one way to Titania, but there are other ways to Bolse. (Well, there are 3 total paths to Titania, but YKWIM.)

Yeah, I noticed the disappearing Slippy effect--also, if you go to Titania, no matter where you go to it from, in the mission briefing, Fox tells General Pepper "I can't leave Slippy hangin'!" Apparently they were too lazy to program alternatives to Slippy getting...erm...smacked out of the sky. :-P
