Wow things are falling apart.

So it's Sunday night/Monday morning and I'm writing my paper. Perhaps one of those times I took a break, I should have checked to see whether I could add/drop yet. Now it's Monday, a bit past 15:00, I've handed in my paper. Had I been thinking, I would have upon arriving home immediately gone to add/drop. Instead I sleep. Now it's Monday night/Tuesday morning and I don't know what to do and I've completely forgotten about add/drop. Now it's Tuesday, 10:00, and I remember, and oh! Look at that! ISHU 101 is filled up just as I expected! Intro to the golf swing is filled up too, though there are still other gym classes I can take.

...now I must either find a new third class, or take a third quarter of Media Aesthetics. Blech.

What are you doing TTh, 10:30-11:50? Michael Green, a supposedly amazing professor who unfortunately in his time here cared too much about teaching and not enough about publishing, has come up for review, not made tenure as he has not produced much work, will be leaving the school at the end of next quarter, and is teaching Intro to Ethics (Phil 21000) in that timeslot. There are currently 48 students enrolled, with a limit of 52, if I'm reading this thing correctly. I don't know how interested Philosophy you are, but I'm not particularly into/good at it or for that matter anything of or relating to the humanities (or humanity), and the Intro to Ethics course I took in 10th grade was one of the most amazing things I've _ever_ done. So this may be something to consider, if you like. I place this comment here for you to use at your own discression. Do as you will.

And good luck ^_-

Philosophy, huh? Now that was something I hadn't considered.

...my current plan was to start core Bio. (You may recall that I said before that I might want to take bio for bio majors, just to learn this stuff right. On thinking it over, though, I decided I really didn't want a hard bio class. :P ) The reasoning behind this was that there didn't seem to be any other Math or CS I could take, any other subject I might be interested in (say, linguistics - that being actually the only other thing I thought about, really) - well, I certainly don't want to start an intro sequence now! I had wanted to take Bio in the Winter so I could take the quantitative one, but a nonquantitative bio class still beats a third quarter of Media Aesthetics. Also I wanted to see if there was any way I could pink slip into Drama.

Philosophy was certainly not something I'd thought of, and is generally something I like to avoid, but I have to say this sounds like a really good idea: firstly, it'll be far better than Hum in that it'll actually be taught by someone who knows what he's talking about (of course, that's true of bio as well), it'll probably actually be interesting (bio probably won't be), and, most importantly, it fits into my schedule much better. :D It doesn't count for anything save itself, but, who cares?

...oh, nevermind. It's closed. Wait, what? Timeschedules lists it as you say, 48/52.

*checks times*

...wow, so apparently those 4 spots filled up in the 3 minutes between timeschedules updating and the registration page doing so. Sucks. So much for that. Though I suppose I could try to pinkslip into that as well. I have zero idea how easy this is to actually do - everyone speaks of it as if it's so easy, but if that were really the case, wouldn't we get classes way over their limit?

The mechanism behind pinkslipping seems to be that there are a bunch of people doing it, and as they drop their courses for ones which they want more, it makes room in the previously filled courses for those who want to get into them.

Of course, ideally pinkslipping is supposed to be a sort of 'shopping period' for classes, where you're taking 10 at once or whatever, and then after a few courses of each decide in which you want to be and leave the rest behind. It's only taken this secondary use accidentally. Useful it exists, though.

Sorry about the Ethics course... Core Bio is a good pick as well too, though. Getting through the core seems to be my general approach right now, at least ^_^ If you're looking for a very easy course, try to get into one of Beatrice Fineschi's sections - I had her fall term, she just sort of wants you to show up and talk about stuff... very minimalistic (we didn't even have a final - she doesn't want us stressing about it).

Hm... cmore is telling me there are still only 48 in the Ethics course. I really shouldn't care, as all of the courses into which I would want to switch seem to conflict either with my math course (which, as it is the experimental section, is unmovable - I'm not even allowed to switch into the other experimental section), my hum course (taught by Ted O'Neill! otherwise I probably would not be taking it next term), or my MWF lunches (losing weight already, can't skip a meal 3x/wk. for any amount of academics), but I still keep browsing the course catalogs for some unknown reason. And it's telling me it thinks it's still there. I'd say if you're very interested, fight for it ^_^

It seems I've temporarily forgotten how to effectively conclude lj comments.

Of course, that kind of fails when the class you're leaving already has plenty of room.

Indeed. I'm not saying it's perfect... far from that. Just that in theory, it's a good idea. Every system has its flaws, I assume. Sort of sucks that it seems to currently be screwing you and a few others I know over, however.

I don't like Michael Green. Harry don't take Michael Green's class!

(But take this with a grain of salt as my conclusion is only based on my sitting in on the first day of "Human Rights 101" or somet similar bullshit, and talking to a girl who took his classs who found him to be a dick, and based on the fact that's he's a fucking ETHICS professor....)

Oh also, ISHU 101 is the 3rd coolest class ever! ESPECIALLY if you take it with Pam Pascoe! You should try to take it eventually even if you can't next quarter.

Yah, I definitely plan to - I mean, what other art class am I going to take? :P

If that's the 3rd coolest, what are the first 2?

AWESOME. That is good to hear.

The first two are:
1. Little Red Schoolhouse
2. I don't remember, but I think I was either thinking of Biodiversity with Mike LaBarbera, or Econ 198 or 199 with Allen Sanderson, or *possibly* Music 103 with Ben Hartman.

which reminds me that that could be another art class that you could take. Music 103 with Ben Hartman I mean.
Although it's really only worthwhile if you can read music, which I have no idea if you can.
