From CS:
"The history of character encodings has been very sad."
"I've been here long enough I have my first name as my username. We knew this wouldn't work forever; we would eventually have a first name clash. Knowing this department, what do you think it was? [someone takes a guess] It was Laci, we had 3 of them."
"A directory used to be an ordinary file. You could edit it with an ordinary text editor, which often meant that the world ended."
From math:
"So this is a vector space. What do we want to make it into?" [Intended answer: A normed linear space]
Someone responds, "A sandwich."
