Jan. 7th, 2009 02:27 amIt seems Halo is the new Smash in Tufts.
Smash hasn't been the all-encompassing constantly-going everyone-playing game since first year, really, or at most second year. But now Halo 3 seems to be taking on that role, with Graeme's 360[0[ hooked up to the enormous TV. Unlike the Wiis, the 360s and PS3s have had little problem connecting to the internet and so actually the way it's usually played is 4 people on a team against random people on the internet. But today we also saw the pulling out of a second 360 and the hooking up of a second TV to allow for 8 players (though it was 3v3v2 rather than 4v4, for whatever reason - kind of weird when you have 2 TVs not to have 1 team on each; but then I guess whichever team Graeme was on would have a big advantage). And people rotate in on the team while lots of people watch. And Graeme stays in all the time because he's just utterly sick at this game. Winston was shouting how he had better be the best person on campus at this game, because we are the best house at Melee, so if Halo becomes our thing instead, we'd better be the best at that. Right now Graeme's much better than anyone else in the house, though. I get the idea I should learn to play, but I am just completely awful at FPSes...
Meanwhile, I feel like this could be the quarter where playing board games without enormous hassle finally becomes possible in Tufts. Of course it all depends on how much work people have. I introduced Jasper to Nexus Ops (me vs him vs Youlian - despite a bad opening Youlian was able to turn control of the monolith into overwhelming resources and win), along, sort of, with several onlookers... meanwhile Winston is organizing D&D again, and if that's possible, well... and you know, having Halo 3 constantly going actually *helps* this, in my estimation, as it creates a crowd of onlookers who don't play Halo, that I can (ideally) pull players from.
Which reminds me, I need to A. bug people about Paranoia and B. send out an announcement about it. I've already informed Peter and Youlian and Winston, I have yet to bug Jasper or E-Lin or others or send out an announcement.

[0]Done: Bug Graeme about Mega Man 9. To do: Find out how much it actually costs and give him the money. Also to do: Try out Left 4 Dead.
