Apparently they've synthesized element 118. Not 117, though. Meanwhile we're still waiting for a name for 112...
Apparently the RHs wanted to meet with the house associates? Man, it's fourth week already! Well, at least that's going forward.
Jack seems to have dropped out of Honors Algebra. I'm in Nori's section - I'm told in Diane Hermann's (sp?) section, they got 42 problems on their last problem set! Yeah, glad I'm not in that.
So for every finite group G of even order, the elements of order dividing |G|/2 form a subgroup? Weird.
I think I can declare initial success in starting some boardgames here, in that Mike and some other people actually asked for one, and didn't even have a specific one in mind. Unfortunately, with them asking for "something simple", I brought out Carcassonne, which didn't work so well with 6. :P Still, an initial success.
Weirder group theory still: John was sitting next to me in Algebra today and he wrote on a piece of paper: For any r,s,t>1, there is some finite group G and x,y∈G st o(x)=r, o(y)=s, o(xy)=t. !!! Huh. No idea where to start on that! Well, n,n,n is obvious, and 2,2,n you get from the dihedral group... John said there's apparently actually some nice general way of doing it with some weird matrix groups. He also said he had figured out the general 2,m,n case, but forgot how he did it. Hm... I'm probably not going to actually work on this, but wow.
Wow, expert mode of Star Fox is a *lot* harder than normal mode. Well, at least it was at first when I didn't know what to expect. I died several times on Corneria! Not nearly as bad though now that I know to avoid collisions. And getting medals seems to be often easier in expert mode because of the increase in the number of enemies.
One thing I didn't realize before is that you can really just mash the buttons on Aquas - in fact, that's how I can get the medal there. You can't charge your laser, so you may as well mash that, and you're gonna need torpedoes to see, so you may as well mash that as well. I mean, sure, you could probably get more kills by actually thinking about what you're doing, but mashing works, so why bother? Especially seeing as actually thinking was what I was trying to do before but I could never get it right.
I think there was probably something else, but I don't remember it.
