Quiz Bowl from the other side (part 2)
May. 24th, 2005 08:06 pmYay, today went considerably more quickly and easily than yesterday. I certainly had to do less shouting. Also, no (well, very few) scoresheet problems today, and the results so far are tallied. Also, I didn't throw out any questions today.
Although today there was a mad dash during the hour *before* to get the questions prepared. We were using a batch of questions written by Noam, which was horribly formatted, not always written NAQT-style, and had lots of bad grammar. Occasionally we just spliced in a different question in its place. There weren't even 20 questions total, so we just added a bunch of others that we had written. Yay, my Proto Man question ended up in there. :D There was no time to prepare another batch for the second round, so we just used an old NAQT packet for that. Also for all the bonuses. (Actually we did attach some boni Noam had written, but since they ended up at the back of the tossup packet, I don't think most people realized they were there. I sure didn't.)
I think tommorrow and Thursday we'll just be using old NAQT packets, but who knows. We do have a bunch of questions we've written that we've not used, they're just not organized.
Oh, since I wrote it (it being one of only two questions I've written, the other not having been used yet), I asked about the Proto Man question. In my room, only one person knew it, and he was subbed out at the time. In other rooms, nobody knew it. One person, I'm told, negged with "Mega Man"... one kid in my second round, when I asked about it (it was read in the first round), said he had known it. (I'll also note here that when the question was originally read to the actual Quiz Bowl team a while ago, Noam negged with "C-3PO" and nobody else got it.)
Oh, for some reason Josh didn't set up the buzzers in Mr. Sayres's room, and went by slaps. Huh?! That's what we're doing in the other rooms because we don't have buzzers there! Oh well, it worked anyway. Tomorrow, though, buzzers.
