On Tuesday, the school found out that Karol Kalinowski had gotten accepted into Harvard.
Karol. The kid who failed chemistry, failed lit twice, I think failed history at least once, and last year, IIRC, was taking lit with the business kids.
The school was shocked. How could *he* get into Havard? The only explanation, it seemed, was that he is good at football. But Harvard wouldn't take someone just for that... would they?
Meanwhile, Hyun-Soo had gotten deferred, and so began the cries of "He took Hyun-Soo's spot!"
...and then of course today we found out it was all a rumor, probably started when someone misheard that Kara got into Harvard.
Dr. Ostfeld is just disappointed that he's not the one who started it.
In other news, apparently we don't actually *know* that everyone who applied early to MIT from BA was deferred, as Katya actually has not yet opened her letter. That she was deferred, though, seems pretty probable.
For coming in second in NJ on the KMO, we get... stickers! Also, a certificate of "auk-ademic excellence". (Don't they ever stop? Apparently not.)
And Mrs. Picinich *does* turn people into hippopotami.
