The Invisible Tiny Horse that Wears Shoes
Sep. 17th, 2004 08:16 pmNot really an unusual story, but one I thought I'd tell anyway. It's a bit inexact.
So we're at our grandparents' house, and I'm kind of bored, so I start taking my shoes and marching them around the room. Then I march them over to Uncle David and have them jump over him, and then march them over to his shoes and march all 4 shoes around. Eventually I march them over to Elana and ask her if she has any food for the Invisible Tiny Horse that Wears Shoes.
"Where do people get the idea that you're so smart?" she says, as she tends to say when I do something like this.
"From the Talking Invisible Tiny Horse that Wears Shoes - which, by the way, is *not* the same as the Invisible Tiny Horse that Wears Shoes."
"Wow. I actually guessed you were going to say that.[0] So... why do you say there's a Invisible Tiny Horse that Wears Shoes?"
"Because he's right here. Here's his shoes."
I start marching the shoes away, and Elana asks me, "So why are you moving his shoes for him?"
At this point I start laughing and say to her, "Sssh! Don't tell him his shoes fell off!"
"How do you know his shoes fell off?"
"Because I'm moving them for him. If his shoes were on, I wouldn't have to do that, they'd move when he walked."
"How do you know he's moving?"
"Because I can move his shoes behind him without them bumping into him. If he were standing still they'd bump into him. Oh, I also know his shoes fell off because if they were on, I couldn't move them, because he'd complain."
"How would he complain? He can't talk."
"So? He can still make noise."
"How do you know it's not noise too high for humans to hear?"
"Because I've heard it!"
Around here the topic changed.

[0]This is referring to my "which is *not* the same" comment, not the whole thing. So presumably she actually said something a bit more specific, but I don't recall exactly.
