Due to the lack of comments, I can only assume that nobody read the whole of "Bootleg returns". Why? Because in it I stated that during the quarterfinals at Millburn, Shu Ghosh began taking his pants off. Apparently nobody read enough of it to get to that.

Anyway...

So today I started Dr. Nevard's project. He had to explain C/C++ for those who didn't already know it. (He plans to finish doing so next week.) Haha, I was really hyper today, I went around shouting "Carp!" at people, and putting my deck of cards on people's heads. Anyway. So I was doing sound effects for his explanation, of course (such as "bing!" when he added a period so as to avoid integer division), or, in one case, when he introduced looping, I immediately got up and ran around in circles. :D

So of course he was explaining control structures, and he explained, if, while, for, and finally do ... while, and he notes how rarely do ... while is used, and then he talks about break, and then he says, he'd explain switch statements, but he thinks it's more important that he gets to arrays, and I say, shouldn't you explain continue? Well continue is used even more rarely than do ... while, he says. "It is not!" He says, well, if you use it that often, then you really need to work on your style. :D

Yeah, I'm still really hyper. Carp!

Mrs. Dr. Crane responded "Spoon!", but of course, "Carp" isn't my battlecry, that's "Joshua Norton lives!"[0]. :D (See "Bootleg returns".)

...did you know that the goldfish is actually a type of carp?

[0]Actually now that I check it I see that I actually wrote that my battlecry is "Emperor Norton lives!", not "Joshua Norton lives!". Still, it's equivalent, so I suppose either one is, really.

[Editor's[0] note: This entry was written yesterday.]

1: Correct.
2: Correct.
3: Correct.
4: Rather than actually *think* about the problem and realize it was falling-ladder (which I'd forgotten, but could easily have rederived), I decided to assume the things were segments, though I should have immediately seen that was untrue.
5: Couldn't figure out how to do it, at all.
6: Somehow, I didn't think of the idea of picking the digits first and then arranging them. Result: no answer, but with a bit more time I would have come up with a wrong one.
7: Calculation error. That's the only explanation.
8: GAH! GAH GAH GAH! I PUT DOWN AN INTERMEDIATE RESULT AS MY ANSWER! *bangs head on wall*
9: ...I had the correct expression on my paper in front of me. ½²*¾*½. And somehow I got 3/8 out of that.
10: Don't know what the error was. Probably calculation.
11: Couldn't solve the cubic I got.
12: I didn't think about it carefully enough and used the wrong series.
13: Correct.
14: Very close, but made a bad assumption. Funny, it still seems right to me...
15: Don't know what the error was. Probably just did it completely wrong.

So, with an index of 166½, no USAMO for me...

In other news...

I finally got to see Dr. D's giant microbes! I went to him during meeting time (yes today was a meeting day), and he just told me to go away, but I went again during last 3 mods, and I got to see them! Yay! Oh, he bought *all* of them. :D

Haha. M&M's and Coke work surprisingly well for headaches. Or at least for that headache (see previous entry). Somehow I doubt it generalizes too well.
