Thursday:
I pack. I've stuffed enough games in my backpack that I have to take a separate bag for my clothes. :)
Friday:
We meet Alex and Fanny (sp?), two kids from Horace Mann who will be on our team, due to Horace Mann's *total* failure to register. (Alex eventually ends up on AAST 2 (yes, we abandoned the μ, α, θ system; I don't know why. However, there were 3 teams, unrelated to us, just called "Team μ", "Team α", "Team θ"), while Fanny didn't end up on either.) We leave BCA. Hours later, we arrive at the hotel. Nothing really happens inbetween. Obviously we stop at McDonalds. The hotel has a sign up in the lobby announcing that we're there, though they've misspelled it as "Bergan Academy".
I manage to get a game of Settlers started against Chris and Rajesh (my roommate), followed by many games of Munchkin against both of them and Ben. Dinner interrupts. We never finish the interrupted game. I try to get Tom to play Illuminati but he says he actually wants to get some sleep tonight. Actually the game was amazingly short - under 2 hours! Chris was Network, Rajesh was Discordia, Ben was AISB, and I was UFOs. Specifically UFOs as Bermuda. And noone suspected it! It was ridiculous! I have 8 alignments, all but Fanatic and Weird, I take Moonies, noone objects, getting me Fanatic, and then I make a privileged attack on Public Art (Weird). You'd think once they saw it was privileged they'd realize what I was doing and go "D'oh! Looks like we lost unless he 11s it..." but instead they're *still* just confused. *After* I take it but before I get a chance to announce that I win, Ben decides to check how close I am to any possible goal. How many Weird groups? How many Violent groups? How many alignments am I missing? "Well *now*, none!" Power structures at http://sniffnoy.port5.com/illutree9.txt.
Ben left, we watched TV, Chris left, we watched more TV, we went to sleep. At only 0:10, actually.
Saturday: HMMT!
Team round: We (nearly) totally own the team round. We get all but the 40-pointers; it turns out later that we didn't get full credit for all our answers, but we did get 2nd place in the team round. And we could have gotten the 40-point #11 if one of us had just realized the significance of the word "finite" in the problem statement... and that's the only problem you needed that fact for!
Individual round: I did Algebra and Geometry, and did awfully on both. Stupid mistakes on Algebra, but I should have done Combinatorics rather than Geometry - I figured I don't really know Combinatorics or Geometry, I may as well go with what I've had more of - but the Combinatorics problems were really not very advanced. Plus I made more stupid mistakes on Geometry, such as misreading which pair of sides in a trapezoid was parallel, thus changing the entire problem.
Lunch: I follow the others, assuming they know where they're going. They do. Sort of. Realizing that we've wandered off the campus, I hurry back to Mr. Holbrook, since when we were at Harvard 2 years ago we ate at the cafeteria. It turns out it's under construction and that the people I was following had the right idea in wandering off campus. I didn't find them again. Not seeing a burger place around, I bought a random sandwich from Au Bon Pain. By that time it was pretty late, though, so I hurried back for the guts round.
Guts round: I was the runner. :D (Though I did actually solve a few problems.) We ended up coming in 3rd.
Relay: Yay! I won a 2x2x2 Rubik's Cube! For being on one of the only 2 teams to actually score a whole 2 points! :P
We came in 3rd overall.
Trip back: Obviously we stopped at McDonald's again. There was also played on the bus back some of the most ridiculous games of Mafia I've ever played - essentially all accusations were random, with no time given for reasons or defense.
Well. That ends it, I suppose. Oh, and never stick coins in your ears.
