Obviously obvious
Aug. 10th, 2003 07:13 pmSo I was looking at pset 22, P8. My first thought, after confusion, was that this was obviously true.
I looked at it again and I realized it was obviously false.
I looked at it again and I realized it was obviously true.
I looked at it again and I realized it was obviously false.
This went on for a few minutes; finally I decided that it was, in fact, false. So it is false, but it is obviously true.

Um, nevermind.
Aug. 10th, 2003 02:12 pmApparently Dr. Nevard's problem is quite far from easy. CounselorJosh has so far managed to figure out that you *don't* necessarily have cancellation, and that it must be of characteristic 2. SecondYearJosh is still puzzling over this, having figured only that the characteristic must divide 14. [Correction: Josh has just explained how he got characteristic 2 to Josh.] Everyone else, SFAIK, has stopped working on it. Of course, more people probably read this than I know, so who knows who's working on it. Not to mention all of Dr. Nevard's other students.
