Obviously obvious

So I was looking at pset 22, P8. My first thought, after confusion, was that this was obviously true.

I looked at it again and I realized it was obviously false.

I looked at it again and I realized it was obviously true.

I looked at it again and I realized it was obviously false.

This went on for a few minutes; finally I decided that it was, in fact, false. So it is false, but it is obviously true.

Um, nevermind.

Apparently Dr. Nevard's problem is quite far from easy. CounselorJosh has so far managed to figure out that you *don't* necessarily have cancellation, and that it must be of characteristic 2. SecondYearJosh is still puzzling over this, having figured only that the characteristic must divide 14. [Correction: Josh has just explained how he got characteristic 2 to Josh.] Everyone else, SFAIK, has stopped working on it. Of course, more people probably read this than I know, so who knows who's working on it. Not to mention all of Dr. Nevard's other students.
