Midterms and talent show
Jul. 26th, 2003 11:57 pmYesterday was midterms. (In a few minutes, that'll be 2 days ago was midterms.) I got a 133, but more importantly, I got 9 points on P6. P6 was "m,n∈N, m|n ⇒ m≤n" - the evil problem which people generally get very low scores on. Because this is a rigor problem. Meaning you have to prove it from scratch. Ie, the axioms and your own lemmas. I wrote a giant lemma for that one, proving that all natural numbers were ≥1.
But on to the talent show.
We had practiced barely at all, and we didn't practice much before dinner, so we ended up with essentially 2 hours to prepare. If you didn't like our performance, you at least had to admire the amazing feat of memorization we pulled off.
Er, should have pulled off.
The 5 sketches we actually did were Four Yorkshiremen, the Argument Clinic, and Wink Wink Nudge Nudge. Nobody forgot their lines in Four Yorkshiremen, but then again, nobody laughed either, so I don't know whether we can really call it success.
Then came the Argument Clinic.
Chris (Abuse) forgot nearly *all* his lines and made the insults up on the spot - and not very good ones at that. What a malodorous pervert.
Dan (looking for an argument) mangled his lines a bit but mainly pulled it off. Except for when he suddenly blanked, and did nothing. There was a long silence as the audience saw he had forgotten his line, as I (being the arguer) tried to mouth it to him. Finally he got it, and the sketch continued. Despite this problem, everyone thought it was really funny.
Finally, Wink Wink Nudge Nudge. Not only did very few people get it, (Get it! KnowwhatImean, knowwhatImean?) but Billy ("Squire") was very obviously performing with the script in front of him (In front of him? Saynomore!)
We didn't win any prizes, though Jon Pinyan put us in his own personal Top 11. (In the real scoring, we placed much lower.)
Things I should have thought of doing but didn't:
Reciting "What if my bones were in a museum..."
Clicking my tongue
After all the times Penev made me do the second in front of the class, I'm surprised I didn't think of it. Or maybe I just repressed it.
I'd write about other acts, but I don't feel like spending the time to do so right now. Maybe later.
And now the first day of Write-Up Weekend is over. Ug, tomorrow is going to be hell.
