So Glenn stated QR in Number Theory today, and it appeared on the problem set. He actually didn't say its name, though.

Hm, doesn't look like we'll be doing regular polytopes in Rn in Geometry after all.

So today we had a guest lecture by Keith Conrad, talking about check digits. Actual guest lecture where the speaker actually proves something!

Bernie is doing a mini-course tonight called "Everything you ever wanted to know about finite fields (and already do)." I'm not going, I just thought that was funny.

Yesterday Burton did a mini-course called "Box of chocolates", because it was just some assorted neat results, including a really neat proof by Erdös that the sum of the reciprocals of the primes diverges, no annoying analysis necessary! Although he only actually got to do 2 of them, and something of a sketch of a third. Originally he had a whole bunch, but he realized he only had time for 2.

Pasha was here today, but he seems to have disappeared. Also Malcolm is visiting today.

The T-shirt finally is finalized.

What!!??  The sum of the reciprocals of the primes diverges.

So I was reading over this because I came from the An-chan's livejournal because he promised you'd have details on PROMYS. And I noticed this one, because Keith Conrad gave the same lecture at Mathcamp at some point in the week of July 17 or so. He also taught a class on sums of squares.

I just want to know...did he wear that shirt with the proof that involved primes on it? Because he was at Mathcamp for 5 days. And wore the same shirt (in different colors) every single day.

Wearing a Ross shirt (I'm guessing that's what your referring to) at PROMYS would be very much a bad thing... no, he certainly did not.
