Wherein Harry traps a Zoid
Dec. 3rd, 2004 06:05 pmMissed school again yesterday, but feeling better today. Ate all sorts of stuff with no problem. Yayness.
So in CS we were doing Romberg integration (a numerical integration algorithm), the first step of which is to use the trapezoid rule. Avi had written a function that did part of the trapezoid rule, but not all of it, and I was saying that it didn't seem proper to just call it "trap" when it didn't actually do all of trapezoid. And he tried to explain that it did make sense somehow, but no, it doesn't, because it doesn't actually do trapezoid. And he was somehow unable to understand that a function that doesn't do trapezoid shouldn't be called trapezoid, and so this went on, until eventually Dr. Nevard wrote on the board "Harry traps a Zoid" and put a picture of me putting a Zoid in a cage. It was big and blobular and had nasty teeth.
Yay! I trapped a Zoid!
Hm. Apparently "Zoids" is actually the name of a series of toys. This has nothing to do with that.
