When I left off, Eric Gamble (former house president and current maintenance manager) had just informed me that I had never actually signed a contract for the summer, and I had just headed off to my office to get internet access. Though as it happened by the time I got there I realized that the ICC office was closing in not too long so I just put down my backpack and continued on to the ICC office.

Also, somewhere along the way I realized that this wasn't a mistake -- I had signed for the spring, intending to sign for the summer once I knew I was actually going to be around Ann Arbor in the summer, and then never did so. And somehow this slipped by everyone. I should have noticed my confusion when I went to pay my charges in July and found that I didn't owe anything, but I didn't. And neither Steve (house president) nor Tianna (treasurer) didn't notice I wasn't on the roster. What about up at the ICC? Shouldn't their finance manager catch that sort of thing? Well, sure, if we had one. The story I heard is, the old one had been planning to retire, they get a new one, the old one leaves and goes on a trip somewhere... and at the last minute the new guy bails. So the old one is going to take up the job again... once she's done with her month-long vacation, of course.

Anyway. I go to the ICC office (of course trying to think up additional failsafes that could have prevented this), where Ron tells me what this is all about: There's a new person moving in, by the name of Hanna (not to be confused with the already-living-here-Hannah), and on the lists there's a spot for her, but physically there isn't, because, well... (Yeah, the house is at capacity during the summer. I was under the impression that's pretty rare, but maybe not?) He suggests several solutions, none of which I can quite follow because I'm still kind of confused as to what's going on, and why Hannah is involved in all this. But first he asks me if Steve is back yet, to which I reply "Dunno?", and ultimately he tells me that without Steve around, we can't really do anything, and we'll just have to wait for him to get back.

So I return to my office to finally get on the internet like I had intended. Some time later I get a phone call from Gamble -- what Ron failed to tell me is that Hanna is moving in *now*, and I'm kind of obstructing her by occupying her room. Uh-oh. I say, give me some time to finish what I'm reading, then I get home, where Gamble instructs me to start moving my things out of my room, and I'm going to have to find someone to room with. I start moving my things out into the hallway; Travis walks by and offers to let me room with him. Well, that was simple! His room (Dan's old room) is just around the corner from mine, so that's convenient. And I had kind of wanted it anyway...

So it goes -- I empty stuff out from my room, Travis goes away but eventually returns and clears out a space from me, Gamble helps me move in the bed and dresser... I leave behind the big comfy chair that Dan left me, though, because there's not really space for it. I figure I can come reclaim it once the summer's over. Hooray! The next day I would go and actually sign a contract with the ICC and pay the necessary fees... looks like we resolved this all without Steve after all.

...wait, where the hell was Steve, anyway? When he eventually returned, he told us: He was at work, very tired, with his cell phone battery dead. He was so tired because he had gone to a concert the night before with some coworkers and gotten only 45 minutes of sleep before they woke him up to go to work.

And that was the end of that -- I had been living here without a contract, but the only bad that came of it was having to pay some extra and having to live in a double for the month.

Well, until yesterday, when Travis just up and left. I come back to the room and find all his stuff is gone except a few things he left behind presumably by accident, including a grapefruit in a dresser drawer. Nobody knew this was going to happen, apparently. The first Steve heard of it is when Travis returned his key to him. So so much for that disadvantage! And I also went and reclaimed Dan's old big comfy chair from Hanna today.

That Monday was definitely a bit too eventful, though. (Other things also happened but they were less interesting.)
