sniffnoySo I was on North Campus putting up flyers for the ICC and I saw deer! Three of them!
OK, apparently this is far from unusual. I've honestly never had reason to go to North Campus before. I told this to Dan, he asked just where I was; I said I was by the music building. That far, he said? Then of course you would. He thought I'd seen them more on the main campus itself (which, apparently, happens).
They were right along the path I was walking on, so I didn't want to go that way. I mean, I realize they're not predators or anything, but I honestly wasn't certain if one of them might get defensive and try to headbutt me or something. (Dan's response was that if it doesn't have antlers, don't worry about it. They didn't.) I accidentally did get close to one on my way out of the music building - I passed right by the bushes it was hiding in without seeing it - I had seen it there on my way in but didn't realize it was still there - and it just bolted. So I guess they're safe. I tried to take pictures with my phone but it seems it's not really good enough for that.
Meanwhile... well, actually I've a number of things I've been meaning to write here that I haven't gotten around to. So meanwhile here's an old blog post by Razib Khan - linked by TGGP in a comment on Language Log - explaining the whole recent anthropology kerfuffle. Well, I mean, not explaining that, as such, as it was written long before that, but you know... (and yes, I know he's written more recent stuff actually about that, after it happened, but I found that a lot less helpful).
