A straightforward but neat application

Remember this post, anyone? Well, here's another example of an application of this idea: Foldit! You're given a protein, and you try to fold it so as to gain the most points... where "points" here correspond to the likelihood of such a folding occurring. So people trying to get lots of points yields information about how these should actually fold. A straightforward application, but really cool.
