I get the idea I should probably start playing Chess. Also now Jasper is pulling out Go, but I'm not touching that. Not even against horrible players on a 9x9.

Funny event a few nights ago - I probably won't tell this right - so Jasper is at the chessboard with some people and Nathan, kind of drunk, is playing Smash, and Jasper calls out to him - Jasper is talking about openings, he asks, "You know the hippopotamus?" Now Nathan is pretty good at chess, and he says, no, he doesn't know it. So Jasper demonstrates it - it looks like a hippopotamus, kind of - and Nathan says, "Oh, that's a bullshit opening!" (Remember, Jasper isn't actually good at Chess, just very enthusiastic about it, much as he is about everything, really.) Nathan then goes on to demonstrate his own favorite opening, and then goes on to demonstrate "the craziest opening ever", which he doesn't remember very well. He points out all the crazy things in each, the unexpected responses; since nobody else around is any good at chess, we have no idea what's so amazing about all this.

We have all the characters and stages in Brawl, so I think it's safe to say we're not going to get a special memory card just so we can get Aaron's save (especially as we all have names and all). Though we don't have all the music; I'll have to take care of that.

We finally have all the cousins and presents in Katamari (remember, this is a new save) - though we had to look up the location of the last present - so I've put up the superclear list once again. We already have a bunch, unsurprisingly. Also, apparently Aaron (on his own file, of course) got the superclear on Tidy-Up at some point over the summer?! I've also pointed out to Graeme that we have the roses level, so we'll see if he will, in fact, get the million as he claims...

So regarding Chu-Chu rocket, when I introduced Youlian to it, I played with 2 computers on weak, as usual. However, since he basically ignored them and only focused on me even if one of them was ahead, now we do it with them set on none (figuring my pure one-on-one idea is kind of impractical as 3 arrows for 2 rockets? Not so good). And when I got Brad[0] to play in a 3-way free-for-all, he still just focused on me!. "I am not your only opponent!" Unfortunately Youlian seems to be the only one with any interest in actually continuing to play; of course as he refuses to play Smash currently, I get the idea we're going to be playing it a lot...

Also, where the hell are people on weekends these days?! Finally we get a bunch of people in the house who'll play boardgames - hell, who'll play Diplomacy[4] - and we can hardly ever get enough of them together to actually play anything! So far the only things from my collection to see any use are the chessboard which some people have borrowed, and Diplomacy, which isn't actually mine but rather Youlian's.

Also, RNOL seems to never have re-formed. Oh well.

Another easy-to-prove but neat theorem: Take any tree of finite diameter n. Then if n is even, every simple path of length n has the same midpoint, and if n is odd, every simple path of length n has the same middle edge. Hence in any tree of finite diameter there is either some vertex or some edge that is preserved under every automorphism. (We're finally looking at the othe groups sheets' in Miklos; that's from one of them. They are, thankfully, interrelated - one is on amalgamated free products, another on presentations of groups, and ours on quasi-isometries of finitely generated groups.)

[0]Oh, Brad's the RA this year. I'm not sure I've mentioned that before. He plays Smash and is OK at it. He and Aaron together form "Team Katie Callow-Wright"[3].
[3]Basically, she's the head of Housing.
[4]Yes, there are people who play Diplomacy and nothing else (Kinnucan, e.g.), but somehow I don't think that's what we've got here.

From what I've seen of Diplomacy, I like it quite a bit
