Gah...

OK. Here's something that ought to be obvious. When implementing something big and complicated like the "smart Location bar", give the users some goddamn control of the thing!

Firstly, allow it to be disabled. Secondly, keep the old version alongside it. Thirdly, allow real customization!

I shouldn't have to download an extension to say "no, I don't want to consider bookmarks", and I should be able to say "I only want to consider actual URLS, not titles", and I should be able to say whether I want to use the smart version or have it based directly on the history like previously, and I should be able to keep the old display format, not have these titles written large across the screen!

The listed solution for "disabling" the smart location bar actually disables any form of auto-complete, period. It doesn't restore the old history-based auto-complete.

And finally all of this should be in the actual options! In fact the actual options should be a lot larger on many, many counts in Firefox already; I shouldn't have to go into about:config to change really basic things.

I would just like the old location bar back, ideally with some of the good features of the smart location bar incorporated. The latter might be hard, but the former shouldn't be.

ADDENDUM: OK, apparently you can adjust how things are weighted with the places.frecency.* settings. However this wasn't listed in the list of about:config settings for some reason, so I'll need to find somewhere else to explain what they all mean. And it still doesn't fix the other problems.
