A fragment of a dream:

He was a small boy, his name was Michael Potato, and he was an evil wizard. He made paper airplanes, and then put his seal on them, and then they could be used as daggers. We fought him on the top foor of a building with a slanted floor, with big pits off to the left and right, though you could also exit via the top of the slanted floor to some sort of rooftop. We eventually defeated him - probably killed him, though I don't remember, and probably using one of his own evil paper airplanes, as those were basically the only weapons I remember being used (there was a lot of fighting over them; actually that seemed to be most of the fighting; I guess we didn't bring any weapons of our own) [and then when this was done we were in fact in my garage] - and I stood there, holding one of these airplane-daggers, shouting at it, "Disenchant! Disenchant! Disenchant!" (I was in fact casting a disenchant spell on it.)

And then a guy says to me, you know, you don't need to do that so many times, it's redundant. I say, redundantly disenchanting is important, lots of people get sick from their own sickness spells because they forget to disenchant it enough times.

And then we're in a car discussing Michael Potato, and apparently he used to turn potatoes into gold, and I think, "So that's why he's called Michael Potato!"

Eventide previews:

As I think I've mentioned here before, though I don't actually play Magic, I do sort of follow it; in particular I love seeing new card sets, where they can make all sorts of crazy new cards. Well, Wizards just put up their first thing of Eventide previews (well, aside from the preview of Overbeing of Myth earlier).

And there is some crazy stuff in there.

But I would just like to note in particular that upon seeing Stigma Lasher, I literally shouted "WHAT?!". Out loud. Yes, that's redundant. I thought it was worth emphasizing.

Stigma Lasher actually sounds kind of like a sideboard card. You can't always assume it'll be useful--it'll really only be useful against decks that gain life. Mind you, that's a sizable percentage, but I imagine it'll be pretty rare, and getting 4 of them in a single deck doesn't actually sound like it'll be all that useful. But it'd screw over many white decks pretty horribly...

By the way, Apprentice has become more useful and less crashy. It even runs OK in Wine--in particular, my friend Patrick has been toying with it a lot. Maybe you'd want to remember all your days of making decks with nothing but Plague Rats? :-P

Note also though: Even without that, it's a Grizzly Bear without a drawback, in red. Red doesn't ordinarily get that. In fact there's only been one other such card, Blood Knight.

I mean obviously that's not what caused me to shout "WHAT?!" but that has nothing to do with quality. :P

Also, you can see the symbol, it is rare. :P

Ah yes, before we knew the 4-of rule. Actually, IIRC, my big deck there was based around en-Kor creatures + Fog Bank, so they would be invincible in combat. It didn't really work too well, unsurprisingly.

In any case I'm going to be without my computer for the next few weeks; I'm just going to leave it at home when I set out for PROMYS. Then I'll come home, finish backing stuff up, and then see about getting a new one...

Whoops, looks like that comment was wrong. There are other cases of it, with hybrid creatures. So, yeah, this may not actually be any good.
