A far less violent approach to waking up:

Repeat to yourself, as many times as you can while youre trying to fall asleep: "I will jump out of bed when the loud noice shatters my sleep." Your mind will then mull over this for as long as it remains in the drowsy stage of sleep, and will be the first thing you remember when you wake up [unless you wake immediately after, or during a dream, which would just be unfortunate].

Try it, tell me how it goes, so that when it comes time for me to do something similar, I might have a working strategy.
