Mar. 1st, 2009 04:54 amSo I figured I'd see if I could get up to and beat Akuma in Arcade Mode. Just playing on Easy, of course - remember I'm not actually much good at this game.
Well, I used M. Bison and getting up to him wasn't too much trouble - on Easy the computer often can't even beat Psycho Crusher spam, for instance.
But then Akuma appears, kills Bison, and... holy shit! How did I die so quickly?!
Evidently, this is the old, broken Akuma; also evidently, he's not using the Easy AI! (Well, I guess he's using the Easy Akuma AI, assuming it does in fact vary with difficulty...) But is it really the old, broken Akuma, or is it just the fact that against an actually decent AI, I'm not any good? No, it's the old, broken, Akuma; some of his attacks do like half your health, it only ever takes a few hits from him to kill you - and the lack of a super meter is a dead giveaway. And apparently even back in Super Turbo, the utterly broken playable Akuma was turned down a few notches from the even more utterly overpowering Arcade Mode Akuma! And given the sheer damage on many of his attacks, I'm guessing this was probably the latter.
Fortunately, while you can't use continues to get up to Akuma, once you're there, you can continue as much as you want and still fight him. And of course you can change characters when you continue. I got up to him about, when? Maybe about 2:00?
Well, nearly 2 and a half hours later, after trying a number of characters and finally settling on Cammy, and after a few attempts by Jasper, Nathan, and Jimmy, I managed to win a round against Akuma. In about another half hour, twice more I managed to win a round. Then, finally, I gave up for the night. After all, it shouldn't be too hard to reach him again. But shit. I needed quite a bit of luck to win any of those rounds; and I'd have to win two in one match.
Nathan actually did OK against him using Dee Jay, Jasper not horrible with Blanka, while Jimmy just got utterly destroyed. I really want to see if anyone here can pull this off.
