I'll keep this simple
Sep. 24th, 2007 04:02 pmWell, my mom called me yesterday to tell me my grandfather had died the day before.
Well, it was hardly unexpected. The only question was when. He had Alzheimer's pretty bad, so to be honest I considered him half-dead already anyway. Last time I saw him, he was in the hospital, trying to shave himself with a TV remote. Still, he wasn't all gone. My mom pointed me out - "Harry's here, from Chicago," she says. "They must have no food in Chicago," he replied. But mostly he had no idea what was going on - didn't even realize he was in a hospital, no idea of the events of a few minutes ago, reading and rereading a kids book with pictures of animals. And that, I'm told, was one of his better days.
A sucky way to die, but not exactly much that could be done at that point. He'll be missed. So it goes.
So, please don't clutter the comments page with zero-content "I'm sorry" messages. :P
In other news...
Jack and Sarah have gone and announced their own election procedure. Um. Ignoring the house constitution much? We'll see what happens. (Meanwhile, while he says it as a joke, Jack does seem somewhat frustrated by us voting on everything.)
Dan compared me to Cato the Elder after house meeting yesterday (which are on Wednesdays now, not Thursdays). Not sure whether that's good or bad, since my knowledge of Roman history is next to nil. Apparently he was the "Carthago delenda est" guy, which doesn't sound so good, but I have no idea what else he did. In my own mind I was somewhat trying to fill the hole left by Sean, though obviously I can't do all the lawyering he can. Was Sean ever compared to Cato the Elder? I think he might have been. Well, he's still here, so if anything bad happens, we still may be able to get him to help us out.
Speaking of Sean, I've sent him the first-years' email addresses so yobohost can continue.
I've decided to once again not run for secretary, but maybe I'll run next quarter if the result is awful this quarter.
Also today was first day of Discrete Math and of Rep Theory, but nothing really to say about either so far. Pavel's with me in Discrete and Grant's with me in Rep Theory.
I've decided not to put my boardgames in the lounge once again; too afraid of losing the pieces. However I put the sign announcing their presence in a more noticeable place this time around (on the wall next to my door rather than the door proper, which is usually open).
So far Melee seems to be winning over original Smash. Blech. I do like Melee, but playing it so much reminds really me of why I like original better. Well, we have yet to see Brawl. Also, Aaron brought some of his DC games, including Soul Calibur. Meanwhile some of the first-years have already started playing Mr. Driller...
