Wai Lee vs. Shuo; Assassins
Jan. 16th, 2007 04:53 pmNow Shuo was in China first quarter, so for quite a while the first-years knew her only by reputation; chances are, quite a few still do. Now Shuo is not what you call an easy person to describe, and, well, the stories about her tend to focus on a few things:
1. She's Chinese.
2. She intends for her children to rule the world.
3. She eats people's souls.
Not exactly what you call the most representative portrayal. Now Wai Lee, hearing these stories, had declared sometime in first quarter that, upon her return, he would "rock" Shuo. What he meant by this was not entirely clear to me at first, but it seems to me now that the definition in qusetion is, to cite Wiktionary,
Verb
to rock (third-person singular simple present rocks, present participle rocking, simple past rocked, past participle rocked)
5. (transitive) to disturb the emotional equilibrium of; to disturb or distress
(This being Wai Lee, I had to wonder if he meant he intended to have sex with her. Apparently that's not so.) Now, while reports of her ruthlessness, coldheartedness, puppy raping, etc., are certainly exaggerated, on this count the stories are right. One does not "rock" Shuo any more than one rocks, say, Lord Tywin Lannister. People told this to Wai Lee, but of course he did not listen.
So second quarter came and Shuo returned, now living in an apartment somewhere but still very frequently in Tufts (even randomly sleeping in Summer's bed, as last year). And Wai Lee began his attempts.
It so occurred the other day that I was in the lounge with Shuo and Wai Lee and Shuo gave Wai Lee some advice. Remember that time you threatened to whip Jim with your belt? she said. Wai Lee responds, yes, he does. Well, she says, if you were to *actually* whip Jim with your belt, *that* would rock me.
Well.
...in other news, Girl Alex and Kate have started up a Tufts House game of Assassins. After a bunch of arguing over what the rules should be with me and Grant, it was finally decided that:
1. Kills are made by hitting the victim with a sock. Can't be wearing it on your foot. Must be a clean sock. (I objected quite a bit to that last part.)
2. You are safe if you are in the dining hall touching your tray, or anywhere in Pierce touching another person (!). Also people can't come into your room if the door is closed and you don't invite them in. No safe zones outside Pierce.
3. Thrown socks can be shielded with objects you are holding but not wearing.
4. Whoever of the last 2 has the more kills is the winner.
5. The only completely open information is who is still in.
35 people were in at the start last night; 10 are dead so far. I myself got 4 kills - Leslie, Grant, Kat, Blake, in that order - before Ian got me. Chris Powers killed Girl Alex, who died killless because she decided to be merciful to her target when he was in the dining hall clearly not thinking about the tray rule, i.e., the game. Also dead are Aviva, Agnes, Amelia, and Kate the Younger, but I don't know by whose hand(s). Supriya also accidentally revealed herself to Charlotte, her target, when she attacked her, completely failing to realize that Kate was shielding her at the time. More updates on this to come later.
