The great question - finally answered!

OK, OK, as to the question I'm actually talking about: How far can you play straight through in Get Blue Spheres before hitting a purple level?
And the answer is: All 2^27 levels, after which it repeats from the beginning (of course, the actual level layouts (stages, in the terminology of GBS) started repeating once you got past 128,016,000, but I mean the level numbers).
"Wait, what about the purple stages?" you ask. Well, it seems the whole idea that specific levels are purple levels is wrong. You see, I found that when I got a password from a cartridge, for a purple level, I got a *different* password than for that same level from the password generator (and yes, I checked this by level, not stage), and that furthermore, the password from the password generator would indeed take me to that level, but it would not be purple. So it seems that my idea that there are specific purple and non-purple levels is entirely wrong, and that rather there are two passwords for each level, one for the purple version and one for the non-purple version.
Of course, this opens the question of how to generate the purple passwords, but that is something I'm not going to worry about. :P
So there's the answer. To beat Get Blue Spheres, you would have to play 2^27 levels. Or just 128,016,000 if you don't see any point in beating stages twice.
