sniffnoy: (Chu-Chu Zig)
So the other night - which night was it? Ah yes, Tuesday night, because Wednesday was the last day of class (sort of) - I failed to get any sleep. I went to bed, but I couldn't fall asleep. Well, you can guess the result of that... I stayed up through CS and math, and slept afterward. Back on the night cycle... hardly matters as there's no more class except for math on Friday, math evening session on Monday, and whenever my two finals are. (I'm assuming there was no Hum today, I don't actually know as I missed Tuesday and I never asked anyone... but it seems a safe assumption.)

So I was sleeping today when I'm woken up by Alex coming into the room, turning on the light, and talking loudly on his cellphone. Finally, after many minutes, he says into the phone how he just noticed his roommate is here. I, silent to this point, say quite loudly and sarcastically "Yes, Alex!". Way to go noticing your surroundings!

Well he hangs up and I tell him, you don't have to hang up, just go elsewhere. He doesn't, instead he decides he's going to do his homework. Right there. Um... I'm sleeping in here, I tell him. Well I'm working in here, he says. Well sleep takes priority, I remind him.

He doesn't seem to think so.

Now I should probably point out that I never really explained to him exactly what I meant by "sleep takes priority"; what I really meant, though I did not think of it till afterward, is this: Our rooms our, first and foremost, places for us to sleep. Thus, either of us has the right to sleep in our room whenever we will, and to not be woken up (barring emergencies). All other uses of the room are secondary to this and must be moved elsewhere if they would wake the occupant up. At any rate, it was pretty clear I meant that sleeping in the room always takes priority over other uses of the room.

Anyway, the result was a long argument, in which he tried to deny all of the following:
1. Sleep takes priority.
2. He can pick up his notebook and laptop and move elsewhere to work, while I cannot sleep elsewhere - well, certainly I can, in the lounge or study lounge, but, you know, that's a good way to get all sorts of nasty things done to you.
3. It is easier for him to pick up his work and move it elsewhere than it is for me to *adjust my sleep cycle*. He sees the whole problem as being my nocturnalism, and says that he would not interrupt my sleep if I kept normal hours. I try to tell him that that is not the issue - sleep takes priority, whenever, but he won't listen. I don't mention to him (I'd forgotten it at the time, actually) how quite a few times I'd gone elsewhere when he was sleeping at what is not a normal time (he has gone to bed early on occasion). He tries to claim changing sleep cycles is easier "in the long run". Aside from the fact that this is ridiculous, it's again not the issue. Truly, Alex, I do not know what sort of jackass you are that you would rather attempt to convince a person to change his sleep cycle than pick up and move your papers.

As I've said, none of this should even come up for discussion; the fact of the matter is sleep takes priority, that's just simple etiquette. And he just goes and outright claims it's not, essentially saying that he has the right to wake me up during the day if he wants to work in the room.

What the fuck?

Well, I don't want to argue about it any further, and simply say that *as* it is simple etiquette, I will just go around asking people what they say so Alex will have to acknowledge that I am right. He says it's an internal thing and I shouldn't drag other people into this. I agree, but note, "When something must be decided, it must be decided, am I wrong?" Well, ha ha, Alex. I didn't have to drag anyone into this; they asked and *joined* me.

So having been kicked out of my room, I go to sleep in the study lounge. When I wake up, Jim asks me why I was sleeping there. I recount the previous episode (minus the part about going around and asking people, note) and he says yes, it's simple etiquette, sleep takes priority. Mike and Lucas, the other two in the room, agree, and, without my suggestion at all, Jim and Mike (or was it Jim and Lucas? I forget) figure they'll go talk to Alex about this, because the fact is I need sleep. I thank them. Alex isn't there anymore, though, and nothing is done.

I think I have made what happened pretty clear. I must admit to not having repeated all of Alex's nonsensical arguments, because the fact is they don't really matter. What say you all?

(Though if someone else with a single leaves, I might be able to get it, seeing as the only second-year who wanted Anthony's old room was Milsark (Anthony didn't move out, rather he took Peng's room when Peng moved out.).)

Oh holy crap! I totally forgot I had QB questions to write! I hadn't really been going to practice the past 2 weeks or so due to a combination of my new sleep cycle and being confused as to where it was being held (on Tuesdays it's not always in the same place anymore). Minda wants them by Saturday - actually he had originally wanted them much earlier. Blech, must pay more attention to these things. I have 6/6 to write... plus that Hum essay for Monday. Oh boy oh boy.
