Other things that have happened while I have not been updating:

I lost, as have many others, most especially (i.e. frequently) Kate.

I have not really had much success at starting games of Settlers or Carc (just one game of Settlers), but Doug seems to really like Homeworlds...

Matt (the RA) has this great little game called Pit, which we play a lot. It's sort of a trading game, except you don't know what you're trading for. It's a real-time game, so it involves a lot of shouting about how many you're trading. Yeah, definitely not something we could play at gamenight for that reason. :P

I confused Danielle (of AAST) for Lisa. Lucas was looking for Lisa and I happened across Danielle and told her Lucas was looking for her, and pointed to where he was. "Great. Who's Lucas?"

Other things that I can't remember...

So over the past few days I was trying to put together a schedule. Definitely taking Math 207 (Honors analysis in Rn)... I don't know why they want everyone to start with calculus/analysis, but that seems to be the standard thing here. I'll take algebra next year, I suppose. Also, I have to take a humanities, and I figured I'll get swimming over with.

At this point I'm going to interrupt the story to talk about the swimming and physical fitness test. As for the swimming test, well... I just waived it, I'll take the swimming class. I really didn't think I could pass it, but what I was really afraid of was that I would go to take the test, get right up to the water, and then freak out. Ah well.

As for the fitness test... well, the first part is cardiovascular endurance, which is out of 50, and the other parts are all out of 10. So I managed a 30 on the endurance, but a 0 on both the flexibility tests and on the grip strength test. So the best I could do now was to test out of 1 quarter of gym, by getting 16 more points on the remaining two strength tests. I managed this, somehow, I think more by dumb persistence than by strength - they were both tests of repetition, one bench-pressing and one of what were basically crunches. It's much easier to keep going when you know how many you have to do to be safe.

Of course, it turns out, all this doesn't really count for anything. :P See, if you take 0-2 quarters of gym and don't pass the swim test, then you *additionally* have to take swimming, but if you take 3 quarters of gym and don't pass the swim test, you just take swimming as one of them. So if you don't pass the swim test, it only matters if you test out of 2 or more quarters of gym, which I didn't. :P

Anyway, so I've got math, hum (I eventually settled on Media Aesthetics), and swimming... but gym classes doesn't count as classes for the purposes of "You have to take 3 or 4 classes", so I needed one more, and I had no idea what to do with it. More math? No, I think 207 will be quite enough. :P Get the Bio requirement out of the way? I thought of that, but if I'm going to take intro bio, I'd like to take the quantitative one, and that's only offered in winter. Lucas suggested I take the actual bio-for-bio-majors - obviously I have no intention of becoming a bio major, but, after all, if I'm going to learn something, do like to learn it the real way - but that is a 5-quarter sequence so there is no way I am doing that. So I'd take bio next quarter... but I still need one more class for this one! A nice standalone class to fit in there... well, there's the Graph Theory class, I don't think I'd mind that on top of 207, but it's got some stupid CS prereq - from the looks of it, I already know everything I'd need to take Graph Theory, but seeing as I was deciding this last night, and I had to register for classes this morning, there was no way I was going to try to talk to the professor to get out of the prereq in that time. Matt suggested I get rid of the Art/Drama/Music requirement, I only have to take one quarter of that, and Shuo suggested I take Art History just because she thought I would like it, but none of the Art History classes looked too appealing, and the one class for that requirement that I thought I might take was labeled "CONSENT REQUIRED". I realized this was probably just because of the requirement that you show up to the first few classes to confirm your registration, as that's also true of intro bio classes, but I decided to be careful. And in the end, I didn't decide on anything at all.

So today, my alarm goes off at 8:00, and, as I so often do, I made the mistake of turning the alarm off instead of hitting the snooze button, and when I put my head back down on my pillow, I immediately fell back to sleep. Now, normally I would wake up no more than, say, an hour later. I woke up 2 hours later. Alex's alarm didn't wake me, as his was set to 12:00. My registration appointment was at 9:20. So, after sitting in bed for a bit, I finally figured the best thing to do was to ask Matt or some other nth-year what to do. Of course, first I had to put some clothes on and brush my teeth. As I was brushing my teeth, Alex came into the bathroom and told me I had a phone call - he thought it was from my mom. I don't think she even knows my room phone number - hell, I don't. I realized that it was, of course, my advisor. She told me that since I had missed my appointment, to come back at 12:00, as their lunch break is from 12:00 to 13:00. I thought it rather strange that she wanted me to come by during her lunch break, but I figured it made sense since the rest of the day was probably filled up with other people's registration appointments.

In the meantime I looked over time schedules and the course catalog and eventually came up with the idea of forgetting about bio and just taking intro CS - the honors version, of course. *g* I thought this might be a bit foolish, to take two honors classes, but it doesn't seem like it'll be too bad...

So of course I came at 12:00, knocked on the door, and quickly found out that she had said to come *before* 12:00. So she now said to come back at 13:00. I made an annoyed remark, and she got annoyed, saying, hey, this isn't my fault - I had to call you, you didn't even call me ("Well, I didn't exactly have much of a chance," I thought...) - and I said, I'm not annoyed at you, I'm just annoyed that I have to come back at all. So I did, and she had someone else register me, who normally isn't registering people now. But now I'm all registered, except for swimming, which has to be done separately.
