-Lucas, on Etienne. And totally unrelated to the rest of the entry.

Several corrections to the talent show; if I really cared, I'm sure I'd add one or two every entry as I remembered them. But anyway, just to note that two of the people singing the "enormous penis" song were, in fact, Bernie and Thanos. Gee, I suppose that's really one correction, not several. But anyway...

So today being the first day after the midterm (which I *still* haven't gotten back; I really need to go see Justin) Glenn has started talking about QRs. We got to see the first-years make some really wrong conjectures today, such as |{x∈Zm:x is a QR}|=φ(m)/2*|{prime p>0: p|m}|. Then they went and restricted it to squarefree. Then to odd, not necessarily squarefree. Then to odd squarefree. Regardless, it's completely wrong, as Dustin pointed out in the back of the auditorium, holding up a sign saying 165. (Calculate the RHS for 165... you won't even need to count the QRs to see the problem. :P )

...working on the problem myself a bit later I found that, in fact, |{x∈Zm:x is a QR}|=φ(m)/2^|{prime p>0: p|m}| for odd m. But there's a pretty big difference between "times" and "to the"...

So Dustin is finally going to give the 3rd part of his nonstandard analysis lecture. Yay hyperreals!

I'm beginning to see why Fergie is in so much trouble; Sherry really does take everything personally. I didn't do my lab writeup? Clearly it's not because I'm just lazy; obviously, it's because I don't respect her! :-/

...was just at Dustin's lecture. He finally decided to just stop slowing down for everyone who demanded it and instead speed through it, skipping proofs if he thought they were trivial. Abandon Dan left after a few minutes, unsurprisingly. So he finally got to actual calculus - continuity and differentiation. Then he started on using the hyperreals to define the topology of the reals. No integration yet, though. :( There will be a 4th part...

Jackie is apparently visiting now, I don't know for how long. She arrived just in time for Dustin's lecture. I didn't recognize her at first. Well I did, but I wasn't certain it was her.

...I should probably go work on geometry now. (Or maybe graphs. Of course the geometry is much longer and due much sooner, but graphs homework is so much cooler... :D )
