We're doing the unknowns thing in AP Chem. You get a sample of some random salt, you're told the cation is on this list, the anion is on this list, here's some solutions you can mix it with, you can test its pH or flame test it if you want as well, what is it? Normally you get 2 points if you get both ions right, -2 if you get both wrong, and 0 if you get 1 right and 1 wrong. We're not getting any more grades in AP Chem, so instead, winner gets some sort of prize. Note that this thing extends over multiple classes.

Anyway yesterday I determined that my sample was a barium salt but didn't have time to figure out the anion. And as it turns out inbetween last class and this class somebody contaminated my sample, so I had to start over. I was really annoyed, too, since I knew the anion had to be either iodide or bromide so I only had to perform one more test. However, since I had correctly determined the cation, Dr. Ostfeld agreed to give me 1 point - making me the only person (probably) who will have an odd number of points.
